한스 큉의 『세계윤리구상』에 대한 비판적 이해, 권희

<초록>

본 논문의 목적은 큉의 『세계윤리구상』을 비판적으로 이해하는 것이다.우리 시대의 문제가 기존방식으로는 해결되지 않는 새로운 패러다임에 돌입했고 후기근대라는 시대가 근대의 지양을 요구하면서 동시에 근본적인 윤리적 정향이라는 보편윤리를 요청하고 있는데 하나의 종교나 새로운 이데올로기 혹은 그 어떤 국제법적 장치도 현재의 위기와 문제를 근본적으로 해결할 수는 없다고 진단하면서 세계윤리를 제시한다. 또한 세계평화를 위한 길에서 큉은 다른 세계종교와 휴머니즘의 활동에 주목한다. 각각 세계의 평화를 위해 나름의 길을 모색하고 있기 때문이다. 이런 점에서 세계종교와 휴머니즘이 그리스도교에 중대한 도전을 하고 있으며 이에 대한 그리스도교의 응답으로 큉이 제안하는 것이 『세계윤리구상』인 것이다. 종교가 서로 평화롭게 공존하면 정치 경제적인 불화를 극복할 수 있는 힘을 줄 수 있다고 보는 큉은 종교간의 평화를 위한 종교간의 대화를 강조한다. 내적으로 자기 종교의 본질에 충실하고 외적으로 개방적인 대화역량을 평화역량으로 연결하고 있다. 이러한 큉의 기획은 세계의 위기상황을 분석하는 것에 머무르지 않고 적극적으로 그 해결방안을 모색하고 있으며 근대 휴머니즘의 인간주의가 아니라 종교적 본성을 포함하는 인간에 대한 희망을 가지고 있으며 해결방안으로서 제안하는 세계윤리에서 종교윤리와 종교대화를 말하고 있다는 것에서 긍정적인 평가를 받고 있다. 그러나 이러한 긍정적인 평가가 있을수록 세계윤리에 대한 개별종교들의 실천동기화와 종교적 다원성의 창조성에 대한 의문을 제기하게 된다.

The aim of this thesis is to critically understand the perspective of Hans Kung’s World Ethic Project. Our world is experiencing a fundamental crisis which has plunged into a point where old ways can no longer accommodate the problems of today without a new paradigm. The Postmodern times is trying to sublate the Modernism but at the same time demands a direction for a universal fundamental ethic. The diagnoses of the times are that no one religion or ideology nor international law can fundamentally resolve the current crisis. Therefore Kung suggests a World Ethics as a solution. Since World Peace is our ultimate aim he wants to focus on other world’s religions and humanitarian actions. This attempt could be very fruitful because individual religions and humanitarian action groups are trying to formulate their specific ethic for the World Peace. All these will be compatible with a World Ethic indeed can deepen it make it more specific and concrete. In a way these groups are making an important challenge to Christianity itself. Hans Kung responds to the challenge with the World Ethic Project. According to Kung presenting different religions that can coexist peacefully with one another will give power to people to overcome the political and economical conflicts to attain World Peace. In order to achieve inter-religious peace he emphasizes the importance of the inter-religious dialogue. If one can be sincere to one’s own religion and be open to the other it will broaden their horizons to better dialogue and lead to World Peace. Kung is not satisfied with just pointing out the diagnosis of the current global crisis but actively seeks for a solution. He deserves a credit for the attempt to include the hopeful aspect of religious nature of the human beings rather than remaining with the modern humanitarian efforts. Also
proposing World Ethics as a solution and bringing together religious ethics and religious dialogue as the core components are highly praised. However doubts on issues like motivation of individual religions’ to put World Ethics into practice and creativity of religious pluralism should be raised.
